Fear of the Day: baths

This is a totally separate fear than the one of hot tubs. This is more a fear of being too relaxed, as I was last night. After a long, hard day of shopping, eating and movie-watching, I needed a break. I poured myself a glass of wine, lit a candle and decided to unwind in a steaming hot tub of saltwater. I closed my eyes and thought about how nice it was to just be. Then I smelled something funny.
I opened my eyes and spied the cat sitting next to the candle with her tail obliviously on fire! I jumped up so fast, which I’m sure was not a pretty sight and started trying to blow it out. This startled Archimedes, who for the first time in her life decided to run. So then I had to bound out of the tub chasing the cat who decided five feet would surely be a safe distance (she’s not the brightest). I tackled her and threw a wet Buzz Lightyear washcloth on her tail. This was apparently more upsetting than having it on fire. She greatly protested. At least she is my black cat, so a singed tail shouldn’t be too noticeable, except for the smell. If anyone has ever smelled burning cat fur (and I hope you have not), it’s not pleasant. This is what I get for thinking a bath will solve all my troubles. I guess I’m heading back to the showers from now on. You can never be too safe.

I really do feel bad for your cat, but had to laugh at this one – just out of the irony that you finally had a relaxing moment and this had to happen. It’s not as if you left your burning candle “unattended”, and at least you acted fast to save your poor kitty from her Michael Jackson moment. I wonder if they make spray hair for cats…hmmmmm

I just hope she doesn’t get addicted to pills after this.
