Fear of the Day: iguanas

Apparently the Midwest is not the only region going through a cold spell. It turns out temps are below freezing in Florida as well. This is causing an unusual problem: falling iguanas. They are freezing and then falling out of the trees. I’d probably die of a heart attack on the spot if I was just walking along and an iguana fell on my head.
When I was in college, a boy down the hall had some type of lizard. It could have been an iguana; I can’t really tell what is what. Anyhow, it was creepy. He had a leash for it and would walk it around and made me pet it. I had to pretend I wasn’t scared so that he wouldn’t torment me with it. That part at least worked.
However, I have since learned of the diseases I could have caught from touching the lizard. They have salmonella. If my compulsion to wash my hands had not been as strong as it is, I could have died.
I can only imagine the cleanliness of the wild iguanas in Florida. There’s no telling what you could catch from one falling on your head. My advice is for all those in Florida to wear a helmet whenever outdoors. You can never be too safe.
