They don’t take themselves down, nor do they put themselves back in the basement. So there they sit, plastered all over the house well after the holiday has passed. It seemed so great while I was putting them up. There was no end to the festivity. However, I am now hating Christmas. (more…)

Fear of the Day: Christmas decorations

October 17, 2009Most mothers entertain certain fears about the possible dangers their children may encounter. They probably include such things as riding a bike without a helmet, not wearing a seatbelt, running with scissors, and other mundane concerns. Those are the bottom of the barrel for me. I turn anything into a full-blown, pull-out-the-life-vests-and-eject-your-seat meltdown. Just so I state this upfront, my No. 1 fear (similar to Colbert’s Threatdown) is beach holes. You’ve probably never heard of this phenomenon that kills more people each year than do sharks. Don’t worry–I will inform you of the danger. They can be found anywhere sand occurs.
