Fear of the day: candy shortage

This is probably one of the most traditionally fearful days of the year, but for me it’s business as usual. We put off the pumpkin buying until the last minute and managed to get the last wart-free pumpkin available. I don’t even want to know what would come out of those warts (or maybe zits?) if we had to cut one open. Luckily I’m not facing that problem. My concern is running out of candy.
My husband is in charge of shuttling the kids door-to-door to get their fill, and I’m in charge of dispensing the candy to the neighborhood witches and warlocks. I delight in passing out full-size bars of goodness, which fulfills my childhood dreams. Unfortunately this involves estimating the number of treaters we’ll have, and math is not my strong suit. If I underestimate, we could be facing a poorly guesstimated number of trickers. Lord only knows what they’ll do. I’m picturing toilet paper, eggs and wart-free pumpkin smashing, not to mention the fact that we have a black cat. So I went ahead and bought an extra bag of fun-size candy to ensure the well-being of Archimedes. You can never be too safe.

Update: I ran out of candy. For real. We had more than 125 treaters. I thought about sacrificing the cat, but instead had the kids sort through the candy they didn’t want and recycled that until my husband said “why don’t you just turn out the light?” Duh. Why didn’t I think of that?
